Welcome

My name is Ian Roma, and I am a 3rd year political science Ph.D. student at SUNY Buffalo. I earned by BA in political science from SUNY Buffalo in 2024. I have also worked in the public sector, serving as an intern for Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand (D-NY) in Buffalo, NY and as an Ambassador of Civic Engagement through the Empire State Service Corps. In addition, I’ve held various positions related to election administration and student government.

My research focuses primarily on democracy and American electoral systems, public law, and political behavior, among other topics. On the research page of this website you will find my working papers as I progress through my program. Please email me if you are interested in reading any of these papers.

I’ve also received the Robert H. Stern Prize for Undergraduate Excellence in Political Science (2024) at SUNY Buffalo for a paper on judicial politics, along with the UB Visions of Social Justice (2026) and SUNY Service Project Impact (2026) Awards for my efforts to support student voting in local, state, and national elections.
